Cool, chilly weather is here, and with that comes the urge to get lost between the shelves of a cozy independent bookstore in Dallas. From a bookshop-bar-venue to a poet-curated collection, here are three of the best bookstores to visit this winter near our apartments in Uptown Dallas:

The Wild Detectives

The Wild Detectives is perhaps the most well-known indie bookstore in Dallas, and it has something for everyone. The cozy, rugged atmosphere houses books in every corner. They also have an in-house café and cocktail bar, as well as a homey backyard seating area for live music or poetry readings. Check out their website to see an updated list of all the upcoming events, including book club meetings, live music, and poetry readings.

Poets Oak Cliff Bookshop

A neighborhood gem and popular independent bookstore in Dallas, Poets Oak Cliff harbors a charming, airy ambiance. The walls feature original works, including framed, signed poetry by the owner, Marco Cavazos. Tucked among the shops of the trendy Bishop Arts District, Poets Oak Cliff is the perfect place for a curated browse with a personal touch. When you've found your next literary adventure, rest your feet at one of their sidewalk tables.

Deep Vellum Bookstore & Publishing Co.

Located in artsy Deep Ellum, Deep Vellum Bookstore & Publishing Co. is often bustling with a variety of intimate events, including artist talks, live music on the rooftop, and their bi-weekly Sunday Tea Time reading circle. The "largest publisher of literature in translation in the U.S.," you can find their works as well as a selective collection of literary fiction and poetry you won't find in many other places.
