When you want to spend a day on the farm, you don't have to go far from home. Local farms offer everything from shopping fun to a journey back in time. Best of all, they are all within an easy drive of our Uptown Dallas apartments. They include:
Wander back to the 19th century at Nash Farm. It offers a glimpse into this era through educational programs and interpretive programs. Thomas Jefferson Nash bought over 100 acres of farmland in Grapevine in the mid-1850s. His family first lived in a log cabin until it was replaced with the current home constructed around 1869. While the house was restored in 2008, it still retains much of its original structure. The farm is open daily between 9:00 a.m. and 5:00 p.m. Admission is free.
Nestled in Plano, Lavon Farms is where Todd and Deanna Moore and their three sons work to provide fresh milk. While most of the farm's cows have been moved to eastern Texas, a small group remains in North Texas to provide residents with the freshest milk possible, along with other dairy products. You can shop for Lavon's goods at its Lucky Layla Farms Store on Jupiter Road.
"Growing for the senses," TX-Ture Farm offers fun activities and natural handcrafted products. Don't miss the unique 90-minute Walk-A-Paca experience. Known as the teddy bears of the camel family, these charming animals enjoy taking guided walks along the wooded trails and lavender and Christmas tree fields. During this exciting adventure, you'll receive an alpaca food pouch and learn interesting facts about these fascinating animals.
